To us, LUCUMA is more than just a company in the business sense; we are a family. At LUCUMA, we collaborate with artisans who love the art of knitting and weaving. We are a family and we care about each other and believe deeply in what we are doing. We’re hard working, passionate and very human.

 

She is Gladis, one of our most experienced weavers. She comes from the city of Arequipa, Peru and she has as well lived in the high lands of the Andes, knitting and teaching to small communities. As she tell us, she got in love with knitting the first time she saw it and since then, Gladis has learned to master this art. She has around 40 years of experience of weaving and all advocated to the production of handcrafted garments. She has knitted garment for known Peruvian and international brands. Gladis is the person who has produced all of LUCUMA's sweaters and cardigans. We are witnesses of the effort and love she puts when weaving your garments. 

 

This is Liz, Gladis's daughter. She loves to knit garments, specially with alpaca wool. Liz has around 15 years experience advocated to the production of hand-knitted garments. As her mother, she is very versatile and likes crochet and embroider. She is the one who has hand-knitted your scarves and hats. 

 

This is Matilde and she is from Tintaymarca, a small village located in the Andes. Matilde has practiced knitting since she was twelve years old and she is with us since the start. She loves to use her hands to knit garments and specially accessories as scarfs, gloves and shawls.  As Gladis, she has around 40 years of experience in hand-knitting and crocheted garments. We call her an artist because she can do marvelous things when it comes to knitting. Matilde hand-knitted your scarves and hats.
